BUTTER BEANS (Charles D. Colvin – To the tune of “Just A Closer Walk With Thee) Written by Little Jimmy Dickens – 1965 Bob Cain sang this every night at The Cane Break, on 4th Ave – 20 St- basement in Birmingham. I am sure a lot of you remember. Robert Lyle Cain (born May 1, 1939 in Hartselle, Morgan County; died of cancer, August 30, 2000 in Birmingham). He was a singer, trumpeter and emcee who led the Cain Breakers band and co-owned the Cane Break supper club with Harry Bell. Bob started out as the front man for the Alabama Cavaliers at The University of Alabama. (Same as Auburn Knights for you other school people) Later in life, he sang with Bill Gaither after rededication of his life to Christian service.
Side Note – Most of the Cavaliers at that time were friends of mine
