“I am Going Home”(California) The song was the work of a Chicago-based songwriter (and apparently real-life hobo at one time) named Fred Geis — it was later cut by Steve Goodman (on Gathering at the Earl of Old Town in 1970) and Ed Holstein, and the acoustic quartet Dramtreeo, but it was the Kingston Trio that introduced it, not only on their album but also in an appearance on CBS, on The Jack Benny Show in early 1965, where they mimed versions of both “I’m Going Home” and “Tijuana Jail.”
